This is a before and after of my parents' bedroom. My mom chose the bedding as a launching point for the makeover and then recruited me for help to complete the look. And, as always, I was more than happy to help. First, wall paint was changed to a softer hue and the natural wood color window trim and base boards were painted a fresh white. Next we reduced the amount of furniture in the room to create a more open and less cluttered space; then changed the bed frame to an upholstered one to add warmth and texture, and take away the matchy-matchy look. Lighting was updated by replacing the table lamps with more substantial sized glass lamps, and replacing the bland, builder-grade flush-mount with one having a lot more interest (and bling!). We then replaced a simple window blind with a beautiful roman shade with a classic grey border. A roman shade is a great way to add privacy to your room, along with color, warmth and texture, while maintaining a timeless, streamlined décor. Final touches included adding art to the walls. Using framed photographs from their trip to Italy was the perfect way to personalize and decorate their bedroom. The search is still on for the perfect area rug though. My recommendation is a textured, wool rug for a warm and cozy feel.
